Sara and Gareth finishing off the Ice Cream in our room. After the hike, we drove to Lake Tekapo Scenic lodge and checked in. We had deluxe accomodations..........NOT. ha-ha. It was warm and we were all cozy in one apartment.

After reaching the town of Aorki, at the bottom of the mountain, we headed out for a two hour hike in Hooker valley. The walk was challenging at times, there were many rocks, hills, and bridges.
Here is a picture of the top of Mount Cook. We are told this is a rare event. One usually cannot see the top of the mountain. Yeah mary..........she captured it. Maybe we can sell it to a travel company and pay for our trip.
We stopped in the info center by Mount Cook, and the very seasoned nature guide told us it was a good day to head up the mountain to see the glacier. Here is a picture of the riverbed at the bottom of Mount Cook in Hooker valley

After we made it over the pass.........whew!!! (Sara and Gareth's subaru is in front of us).
The Snowstorm up on the pass. The driving was slow and a little slippery, but Hal put on his mad bomber hat and drove through it. Andy the co-pilot assisted him in this endeavor. Sara and Gareth were out ahead of us so we just followed them.
Lake Wanaka
Day 7 (Monday) We woke up and it had snowed a bit, and was raining. We checked at the desk for the road report, and the desk clerk told us that Lindsor pass was closed. We were supposed to be going up to Mount Cook, and lake Tekapo, however, the only way to get there was through the pass. She told us that it was closed indefinitely, and might not open until the next day. She said that travel was not advised. Now, being the hardy Minnesotans, and Canadian that we are, we decided to go anyways. Sara suggested we go to Wanaka and check at the info center to see if the roads had re-opened. So, off we went. By the time we reached Wanaka, the road was re-0pened. Mary and I thought we had left our Minnesota winter behind, but, alas, it was back.

What a great batch of pictures. I laughed when I saw the scene of bridgeaphobia and the picture of the GALE on the boat. We miss you guys.

ha-ha-ha.....yes, by the 4th bridge crossing, I was getting better at it. I had visions of the 35W bridge when I crossed those. And, of course, there was always some male behind me swinging the bridge.
